Goodwill Supports Congressional Efforts to Extend the IRA Charitable Rollover
September 26, 2008
Goodwill Industries International® applauds the U.S. House of Representatives today for voting to extend the IRA Charitable Rollover. If enacted, this provision would, once again, allow people ages 70 ½ and older to donate up to $100,000 from traditional Individual Retirement Accounts (IRA) and Roth IRAs directly to charitable organizations such as Goodwill Industries without a tax penalty. The U.S. Senate passed a similar tax package Wednesday.
“Charities like Goodwill Industries are supported by people who want to give their resources to solve problems and enrich their communities,” says Jim Gibbons, president and CEO of Goodwill Industries International. “We support the efforts of Congress to extend the charitable IRA rollover before Congress adjourns at the end of this month.”
Tropic Thunder Pushes the Boundaries of Good Taste

Tropic Thunder depicts individuals with intellectual disabilities as well as people of different ethnic backgrounds in a demeaning manner.
Goodwill Industries International® is in support of leading disability organizations — such as the Special Olympics® and the American Association of People with Disabilities® — who are in objection to the representation of people with disabilities featured in the movie. Goodwill® has shown it support by signing the Coalition Statement of Support and Solidarity, which currently has hundreds of signatures from other disability advocacy organizations.
Goodwill’s mission is to help people with disabilities or other disadvantages achieve and maintain employment, and we do so by placing people in jobs, and providing training and counseling to make the search easier.
