Goodwill’s founder, Rev. Edgar J. Helms, once remarked that, “Goodwill is simply too powerful an idea to stay within the borders of one country.” During Goodwill’s fledgling years in the first part of the 20th century, Helms visited Australia, Japan, China, the Philippines, Malaysia, India, Egypt and several European countries, spreading the word that work should be within the reach of anyone who wants to hold a job.
